Peace and Conflict Studies and Study Abroad

The PACS program has just issued a new report outlining opportunities for earning PACS Academic Credit through CU-Boulder Study Abroad Programs.

Service Learning Programs and Volunteer Opportunities Abroad

The University has issued an updated listing of available opportunities.

The Program in Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) serves students interested in the cross-disciplinary study of peace development and conflict management. PACS has a four-decade history at the University, preparing hundreds of students, many of whom are now conflict professionals in a growing field.

The PACS Certificate is awarded by the College of Arts and Sciences. It is available to any CU-Boulder student who completes the two PACS courses and 18 additional hours of approved coursework relevant to such topical areas as war avoidance, conflict resolution, nonviolence, human rights, humanitarian intervention, social justice and ecological security.

To apply for the certificate program, students should visit the requirements and forms pages, then submit an initial sign up form to PACS Director Stanley Deetz in Norlin S427.

PACS students participate in related programs on campus and beyond through study abroad and internships. Upon graduation, their career paths may lead them to graduate study and a growing number of organizations working to moderate conflict and build peace and justice at all levels of national and global society.

PACS relies on support from outside the University for its supplementary programs such as internships and scholarships. Those wishing to further the PACS mission, may do so by giving tax-deductible gifts to the Colorado Peace Studies Endowment.
